Renier Jay Ranges of Ilocos Region and Krisha Aguillon of Western Visayas were named ‘Sprint King and Queen’ in the athletics event of the 2023 Palarong Pambansa on Tuesday at the track and field oval in Marikina Sports Center in Marikina City.
The 16-year-old Ranges topped the secondary boys 100m dash clocking 11.19 seconds against rivals Lorence Beron (11.35) and teammate Alfredo Pineda (11.37) of Central Luzon, while Aquillon claimed the gold in the distaff side in a timed of 12.57 seconds, beating Shane Santiago of Southern Tagalog (12.82) and Schenley Faye Ombid of SOCSARGEN (12.95).
In the elementary class, Rayne Aldrich Lagula of Central Luzon clinched the gold in the 100m run, finishing at 12.51 seconds against Jhon Jose Dugan of Western Visayas (12.79) and James Michael Pitogo of Northern Mindanao (12.85).
SOCCSKSARGEN pride Katherine Paja claimed the sprint title in the elementary girls winning the gold medal in a time of 13.29 seconds. Christine Joy Taliente of Ilocos Sur finished second at 13.41, while the bronze went to Chloe Jabillo of Northern Mindanao (13.60)
Other podium winners in the elementary boys are Winnie Paclibar of Western Visayas (53.06), Marjun Castano of Northern Mindanao (48.39), and John Carbayar of Southern Tagalog (44.35) in javelin throw; Ervin Duque of Central Luzon (1.59), Lourenz Mane of Southern Tagalog (1.59) and Malcolm Pearson of Central Visayas (1.56) in high jump; while Western Visayas bet dominated the triple jump event with Rhain Baladjay took the gold at 11.37 meter followed by Kenneth Pancho (11.29) and Louie Dela Pena (11.17).
Western Visayas bet also shone in the long jump event with Jumel Dichosa claiming the gold medal with a leap of 5.28 meters, while teammate Jian Arlanza finished second at 5.16 and Jan Ford Padon at third with a similar 5.16 he gained in his last jump.
