In a not so surprising twist and turn of events, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte announced this afternoon her withdrawal from the upcoming mayoral race in 2022 election.
Rumors have been going around for quite sometime that Mayor Sara will eventually withdraw her candidacy as mayor and will later seek for a national position this 2022 election.
“Ngayong hapon wini-withdraw ko ang aking kandidatura sa pagka-Mayor ng Davao City. Si VM Baste ang papalit sa akin. Ito lamang po muna. Maraming salamat po,” Duterte wrote on her official Facebook page.
It’s still a guessing game what position she will be filing after her announcement today.
Meanwhile, Senator Bong Go who filed his candidacy as vice president last October 4 issued a statement in Antipolo hinting a possible declaration of another withdrawal in the coming days.
In an emotional speech in Antipolo for a Malasakit Center event, the senator says, ‘Gustuhin ko mang magsilbi sa inyo bilang Bise Presidente, dahil sa kagustuhan ng ating Mahal na Pangulo, kailangan ko pong umiwas. Malalaman nyo po yan sa darating na mga araw.”’
Go filed his COC for VP last Oct. 4, and has been topping many polls both online and traditional since he declared his intention to run.
