Top seeds National U, Far Eastern U, University of Santo Tomas, and Adamson shoot for quick Final Four tickets against separate counterparts in the Shakey’s Super League (SSL) Collegiate Pre-Season Championships Season 2 quarterfinals this weekend at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum in Manila.

Equipped with twice-to-beat incentives, the four squads led by reigning champion and only unbeaten squad NU of Pool E wants no part of an upset axe from bottom-ranked squads when it goes up against the University of the East on Sunday that will also feature a duel between Adamson and Arellano.

Far Eastern and Pool UST today take on Ateneo and College of St. Benilde at 2 p.m. and 5 p.m., respectively.

NU (6-0) and UST (5-1) topped Pool E while FEU (5-1) and Adamson (5-1) led Pool F to clinch win-once bonuses in the quarterfinals with the Lady Tamaraws eyeing to be the first to make the most out of it.

Tagged as the favorite over the rebuilding and struggling Ateneo squad, a win by FEU would surpass its early quarterfinal exit last season in the SSL backed by Mikasa, Eurotel, Victory Liner, Summit Bottle Water, Peri-Peri Charcoal Chicken, R and B Milk Tea, Potato Corner, Rebel Sports, Converge ICT Solutions, Genius Sports and United Auctioneers, Inc.

“Dapat maging consistent pa kami sa ginagawa namin. Hindi namin ito ite-take as advantage. Para sa amin, must-win ang every game. ‘Yun ang mentality namin,” said coach Manolo Refugia.

The Lady Bulldogs echo the same mindset, keeping their thirst and hunger for more like the way they swept through the SSL opposition last year to capture the inaugural title.

“Dapat, kami pa ‘yung mas gustong manalo palagi. It’s more on the character in the playoffs. Ganoon pa rin, ang goal is to reach the finals and win it all. Dapat maging aggressive pa rin. Walang magre-relax,” said the returning mentor Norman Miguel.

Against all odds though, the handicapped squads at the bottom of the standings vow to give their adversaries a run for their own money to force deciding games and stay in contention.

Otherwise, they would be relegated to the classification matches as the four teams march on the knockout semis until the best-of-three finals for the Season 2 crown of the SSL in cooperation with the Commission on Higher Education and the Philippine Sports Commission.

All SSL Season 2 games are accessible across all platforms live and on-demand through the social media pages of Plus Network and SSL with Solar Sports, Blast TV, and Aliw Channel 23 as TV partners.
