Suarez edges Vasquez to remain unbeaten

FILIPINO hard-punching Charly Suarez beat Yohan Vasquez of the Dominican Republic via unanimous decision on Saturday (Sunday in Manila) at Hard Rock Hotel And Casino Tulsa in Catoosa, Australia.

The scheduled 10-round junior lightweight bout went the full distance, and the Filipino Olympian got the best score from the judges, 98-92, 98-92, and 97-93.

With the victory, 35-year-old Suarez improved to 16-0, with 9 Kos, while the 29-year-old Vasquez suffered his second straight defeat and dropped to 25-4, with 20 Kos.

“God has proven to be mighty yet again. Grateful for entrusting us with another victory. I fully realize that blessings and victories are tests to prove our character and our faith. My journey is not just to prove my physical strength and ability, but to show God’s strength in my life.,” said Suarez in his Facebook post after the fight.

“My hand may have been broken but the Lord’s Spirit that lives within me is 100% complete. That is why all the more, I have to trust God and entrust everything to Him,” added Suarez, a Philippine Army reservist.

Suarez also gave credit to Vasquez and expressed heartfelt gratitude to Team Suarez headed by Coach Delfin Boholst, Dr. Bert Cinco, and Luis Christian Singson.
