PSC unveils inexpensive new slogan and logo

The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) unveiled a new slogan and logo for its two major sports programs – Batang Pinoy and Philippine National Games.

But unlike the controversial Department of Tourism (DOT) and the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) re-energized campaign, the country’s leading government sports agency make sure it would not cause public uproar.

“It’s free. I’m proud to say that we never spent much here. I did come from corporate and I think when I handle the Power Camp I had an in-house graphics designer to help, so it’s also important to use the graphics design group of the PCO,” said PSC Chairman Richard Bachmann during the launching on Tuesday that highlighted the media conference to report the agency’s achievement for the second quarter of the year as well as the thrust and priorities for the next year.

The PSC’s Public Communications Office collaborates with the Chairman’s Office led by Chief of Staff Dindin Urquiaga in coming up with its new slogan “Bida ang Bayaning Manlalaro’ and logos of its grassroots and elite program.

A joyful image of a child wearing salakot while holding a torch made of bamboo with flames representing the Philippine colors was almost the same as the old logo for Batang Pinoy. At the same time, the PNG was totally a new look from an Olympic ring tied in colored ribbon to a much more locally designed lightning bamboo torch with flames shaping the abbreviated PNG.

“It’s a house production. It was also important that we did discuss the direction. Maganda ring mga empleyado ng PSC ang nag-collaborate dito kaya they know the message. We went on to how people see it. How they feel it, Hindi tayo kailangang gumastos” said Urquiga, a digital graphic designer and creative director of a magazine from Cebu City.

Both the DOT and Pagcor made a quite stir lately after launching their own new slogan and logos made by private agencies spending tax-payers money of 49M and P3M million, respectively.

During the media conference, Bachmann also introduced Franciso Tatad as the PSC’s new Executive Director replacing Atty. Guillermo Iroy, Jr. The 47-year-old Ateneo-educated sportsman was a former junior athlete and varsity member of the Ateneo men’s volleyball team.

Bachmann said that his proposed budget of P4 billion for 2024 was rejected by the Department of Budget and Management (DBM).

“I cannot divulge how much we receive next year, but the P4 billion proposed budget was not approved. That why we already seek the help of some congressmen and Senators on how to get an additional budget. I already talked with Sen. Migz Zubiri and he promised to help us,” said Bachmann.
