Mojdeh leads Binan City to three meet record in CALABARZON Regional meet

ANOTHER brilliant performances from a swimming phenom everybody called ‘Water Beast’.

Micaela Jasmine Mojdeh, a Palarong Pambansa standout and national junior record holder, once again on a winning mode, claiming four gold medals including three new meet record over the weekend at the 2023 CALABARZON Regional Athletic Association Meet at the De La Salle University-Dasmarinas pool in Cavite.

Representing Binan City, the 16-year-old pride of Brent International School and the face of the BEST (Behrouz Elite Swimming Team) Philippines dominated first the girls’ secondary 200m breaststroke, clocking two minutes and 48.07 seconds to shatter the old meet mark of 2:50.15.

Coming off from a tough National qualifying event last month for member of the Philippine Team that will send to Cambodia SEA Games this May, Mojdeh wowed the crowd with another sterling swim in the 100m butterfly with a time of 1:05.86 bettering the old mark of 1:05.94.

The only Filipina homegrown in swimming history who made it to the semifinals of the World Junior Championship last year in Peru, Mojdeh claimed her third meet record in the 200m butterfly, clocking 2:23.74 to erase the old mark of 2:24.31.

The three-time Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) Junior Athlete of the Year copped her gold-medal run with victory in the 200m Individual Medley (2:29.88).

“I’m very happy that finally I represented my mom’s hometown (Binan City) and my School in Brent in the Southern Tagalog Regional Meet. Last 2020, we’re planning to swim here but the pandemic broke out,” said Mojdeh, a veteran international junior campaigner.

With Mojdeh in the team, Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon) region is expected to be a force to reckon with comes the 2023 Palarong Pambansa slated July 29 to August 5 in Marikina City.

Palarong Pambansa standouts will be selected as member of the Philippine delegation for the Asean Schools Games scheduled in August in Danang, Vietnam.

“My target is to break record in ASG,” said Mojdeh, who also extends her gratitude to her Brent International School coach Ramon Reloj and DepEd teachers in Biñan Coach Glan Gonzles, teacher Rose Estiva and Gertrude Anunciacion, coach Virgilio de Luna and coach Jeremiah Paez.
