Student Cadets vie for pride and honor in ROTC Games Luzon leg in Tagaytay City, Silang

THE search for talented young Filipino athletes in the Reserved Officers Tactical Corps community continues as the ROTC Games Luzon leg officially opens on Sunday at the Cavite State University in Silang, Cavite.

A record 1,000 ROTC Cadets — the biggest so far after three legs — from over 100 participating schools Colleges and Universities will compete in seven sports namely Athletics, Arnis, Basketball, Boxing, Esports, Kickboxing, and Volleyball in the five-day tournament organized by the Commission of Higher Education (CHED), in partnership with the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC), Local Government Unit s (LGUs), the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the Office of Senator Tol Tolentino.

The tournament launched in Iloilo last August for the Visayas leg before going to Zamboanga City for the Mindanao leg. The National Capital Region (NCR) leg is scheduled for October, before the culmination of the event in November with the National Finals.

Hostilities started on Saturday with the Coronation Night for Ms. ROTC won by Bicolana morena beauty Angel Brahms Malavega Bernarldez while the opening ceremony and parade of the athletes set Sunday afternoon with Tokyo Olympics boxing silver medalist Nesthy Petecio administering the ‘Oath of Sportsmanship’ while ROTC Games co-founder Senators Tolentino, Christopher ‘Bong’ Go and PSC Chairman Richard Bachmann to deliver inspirational messages.

Tagaytay City MayorAbraham ‘Bambol’ Tolentino will lead invited local officials along with PSC Comissioners Fritz Gaston and Edward Hayco along with CHED top honchos led by Secreraty Popoy De Vera.

The ROTC Games aims to promote the development of sports programs, and physical education, foster self-discipline, teamwork, and excellence, and train young athletes for future sting in an international competition.

“Target din natin sa ROTC Games yung ma-develop yung grassroots sports programs for the youth,” said Tolentino.
