In every adversity lies an opportunity is an old adage and has never been evident than the current COVID19 pandemic. The pandemic has presented an unexpected opportunity to change for the better. People nowadays are adapting a more sustainable and environment friendly means of transportation like bicycle.

Many experts view biking as a safe way to avoid crowded public transportation. Bikes are also recognized as one of the key components for “green recovery”. While it contributes to healthy, liveable communities by limiting pollution, biking also keeps people fit and physically active.

As more and more people turn to biking as a mode of transportation during the Community Quarantine, SM Supermalls have created bike parking facilities across its malls in Marilao, San Jose Del Monte, Baliwag, and Pulilan.

With organized and secure parking zones designated solely for bicycles, SM hopes to make the riding experience safe and convenient for the growing number of bike commuters, especially in communities where SM malls are located. These spaces are also currently free of charge.

For customers who prefer to protect their bikes from the elements, there are covered bike parking areas in SM City San Jose Del Monte.

For customers who enjoy the convenience of nature and street-level parking, SM City Marilao, SM City Baliwag, and SM Center Pulilan are among the malls that offer bike parking areas near the mall’s entrance.

Customers have one less thing to worry about when it comes to bike parking safety with on-duty guards manning and securing bike parking areas. Other security measures at SM City Baliwag and SM City San Jose Del Monte require customers to register in a logbook in exchange for a bike parking pass as an added layer of security.

With SM’s bike-friendly facilities, customers can look forward to a safe, convenient, and enjoyable biking experience. Importantly, SM aims to support inclusive mobility especially during the Community Quarantine, and hopes to encourage more people to take up biking as a healthy and environment-friendly alternative means of transportation beyond the pandemic.

SM’s bike-friendly facilities is part of SM’s Green Movement comprehensive plan and campaign to promote clean, green, sustainable communities. It was first launched at Mall of Asia and SM By the BAY and followed by other SM Malls like SM Aura Premier, The Podium, S Maison, SM Marikina, SM Megamall, SM BF Paranaque, SM Olongapo Central, and SM City North Edsa.
