World Beach Pro Tour blasts off in Nuvali

The Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) and Ayala Land Inc. announced on Wednesday the sealed three-year partnership for the development of beach volleyball.

As a starter, the Nuvali’s newly constructed five FIVB-standard sand courts in Sta. Rosa, Laguna will host the prestigious Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour (BPT) Challenge Cup from November 29 to December 3.

Elite teams from more than 30 countries bannered by men’s world No.1 Norway and women’s top-ranked Brazil will strut their stuff before an anticipated Filipino crowd for one of the toughest world beach volleyball tournaments to be staged in the country.

Fancied top teams USA, Australia, Italy, Canada, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Germany, and Poland are also in the fray with host Philippines vowing to give a run for their own money at home.

Stalwarts from Frances, England, Portugal, China, Chile, Austria, Lithuania, Estonia, Switzerland, Oman, Thailand, Latvia, Japan, New Zealand, Israel, Spain, Turkey, Gambia, Morocco, Malaysia, Finland, Slovenia, Ukraine, and Slovakia are also out to stamp their class.

“We expressed our gratitude to Ayala Land, Inc. for providing us with a permanent venue for the development of beach volleyball. The Nuvali courts are equipped with a lighting system so we can train and play even at night. Our games are until 9:00 p.m. kaya ma-enjoy natin ang mga laro,” said PNVF president Ramon ‘Tatz’ Suzara during the media launching at the PSC Conference Room.

Representing the Philippines are the pairs of Ran Abdilla and Jaron Requinton, James Buytrago, and Rancel Varga as well as Anthony Arbastro and Alche Gupiteo in the men’s division.

In women’s play, the duos of Sofiah Pagara and Khylem Progella with Gen Eslapor and Dij Rodriguez will carry the country’s fight as the PNVF brings another world-class tournament here with Mikasa, Senoh, the Philippine Sports Commission, Pinay In Action and Smart as gold sponsors.

The BPT Philippine leg with PLDT, Gatorade, Maynilad, Rebisco, Ayala Malls, Department of Tourism, CBPI, Club Laiya, Foton as bronze sponsors, is tipped to be way stage tougher competition.
