Hidilyn Diaz won the first Philippine’s Olympic Gold Medal in the women’s weightlifting 55 kilograms on Monday, July 26, at the Tokyo International Forum.
Almost a hundred years since the Philippines standout in the Olympics, but now weightlifter Diaz brought the country into triumph after winning the first-ever gold medal in the Olympic 2020.
Diaz recorded 127kg in the clean and jerk in a total of 224 kg, hitting China’s Liao Qiuyun at 1kg.
However, Quiayun won a silver medal in a set of records of 223 kg.
This is the second time that Diaz won a medal at the Olympics, the first one was the silver medal at Rio de Janeiro Games in 2016.
