Japanese global apparel retailer, UNIQLO, through SM Foundation Inc. donated 37,200 pieces of AIRism masks for the communities and families in Bulacan affected by the recent typhoon Ulysses.

Being one of the of the hardest hit provinces during typhoon Ulysses landfall, many communities in low-lying areas in Bulacan have been submerged by floods; prompting families to seek temporary roof in evacuation centers or public disaster shelters.

As part of the mitigation efforts to slow the spread of COVID-19 and to encourage communities to wear mask, nine municipalities benefitted from the donation.

Malolos City Mayor Gilbert Gatchalian received boxes of AIRism masks donation during SM City Marilao’s UNIQLO facemask turn over. Joining the City Mayor are SM City Marilao Mall Manager Emmanuel Gatmaitan and City Counselor Kiko Nicolas. UNIQLO Philippines through SM Foundation Inc and SM City Marilao donated 37,200 AIRism masks to families, communities, and evacuees that were affected by the recent typhoon Ulysses. The donation is also a part of its commitment to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 in the province.

Through SM City Marilao, a total of80boxes each containing 300 pieces of AIRism masks were donated to the Local Government of Marilao, Bocaue, Guiguinto, Malolos, Calumpit, and Hagonoy. The donations will be brought to families, communities, and evacuees that were affected by the recent typhoon. Around 24,000 individual benefited from the donation.

Rounds of donation, on the other hand, were conducted by SM City Baliwag in Bustos, San Rafael, and Baliwag. In close coordination with the Local Government Units of these town, the 7,500 pieces of AIRism masks are target to be distributed to high risk groups like the senior citizens and institutions that are most vulnerable to COVID-19. SM Center Pulilan likewise donated 5,700 pieces of AIRism to municipalities of Plaridel and Pulilan.

Apart from the AIRism masks donation, UNIQLO also intensifies its support on relief and recovery efforts through its parent company- SM Group, as it will donate 1 million USD in aid. The donation will be made through SM Foundation Inc, an entity that manages the CSR activities of SM Group- the management partner of UNIQLO in the Philippines. The donation will be used to provide emergency food supplies and rebuild flooded housing, as well as build preventative infrastructure in areas susceptible to flooding.

UNIQLO hopes for speedy recovery of the regions affected by the recent Typhoons. It also hopes that each family can return to their normal lives as soon as possible.
