In a heartbreaking video blog, former GMA News reporter-turned-pilot announced on YouTube that he lost his job in an airline company and was part of the many employees who were retrenched ny the airline they’re working for.

As we all know, many businesses and companies were badly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and one of the hardest hit was the travel and tourism industry. It’s safe to say that with Steve’s vlog, Cebu Pacific (CEB Pacific) was one of those companies that were forced to retrenched employees as financial burdens continued to mount amid the coronavirus health crisis.

According to Steve, he signed contract with CEB Pacific last October 2019 and started in January this year. And as Steve said, ” …and COVID happened.”

Steve became a household name when he was still a news reporter and became popular with his monicker as “Steeeeve Dailisan”.

He decided to leave the station to pursue his dream of becoming a pilot. He was almost living the life he dreamt of until it was cut short by the pandemic.

“Medyo malungkot ako pero gusto ko pa rin kayong i-inspire. This is not the end,” said Steve who was obviously trying to hold back his tears.

“If you ever feel na mawawalan kayo ng trabaho, dyan sa present job niyo, first of all magdasal kayo at magpa-salamat sa mga bagay-bagay. Sabe nga sa isang kanta, “let it go” para tayo ay makapag-move on,” Steve goes on as he gave tips to others who are also experiencing the same predicament.

As part of letting go, Steve has to let go of the things that the company entrusted to him like his pilot bag, iPad, pilot uniform, and the yellow wimg emblem pin. The yellow wing emblem pin seemed to be the most difficult thing he has to return because the pin represented his life-long dream.

Steve thanked all the people who supported him and the airline for giving him the chance to fly with them. He alao thanked his friends and family. Steve is the family’s breadwinner.

Before ending his vlog, Steve encouraged everyone to be innovative and creative especially during this time of pandemic. “This time brings the best and worst of us. Basta maging positive lang at magdasal tayo.”

Steve is still looking forward that he will be able to fly again and losing his current job is just a pause from all the things that is happening around.

“Ako po si Steeeve Dailisan, patuloy na lumalaban para sa takeoff,” he ended.
