The Buddy Run is a yearly 5KM and 10KM race tradition by one of the biggest supermarket store in the Philippines. This year’s 11th Fit & Fun Wellness Buddy Run was held at Camp Agunaldo Parade Ground in Queson City and the gun started as early as 6AM. The race was temporarily suspended for a few minutes because of the heavy downpour earlier in the morning. The organizers, through hosts coach Jim and Toni Saret pushed for the continuation of the race and announced that particapants can either run, walk, or just simply hang out in the area to avoid any untoward incidents that might happen due to the unforeseen weather condition.

Every one went home filled with not just groceries but with positive vibes showing how resilient they are in times of this kind of weather.
“They say it is not how you finish a race but how you ran it that makes all the difference. Today was a testament to that.
The elements of what a run should be were in place – race markers, timing clocks, arch, race marshalls, sponsors and participants were in place. What we had no control of was the weather.
At about 5AM, rain started to pour hard at Camp Aguinaldo that caused us to ultimately cancel race categories. Participants were given the option to continue to run (with no official record of their time) or simply redeem their lootbags at the venue. There will be no race winners. No 5KM or 10KM runners. It will just be ONE run.
And this was probably one of the miracles today: People ran or walked with or without umbrellas. There were no times to beat. For some, the rain even made it more fun or refreshing. We saw people still smiling, walking, running or going through the booths.
And this is why we do what we do. For moments like these.
So yes, maybe the rain did change our plans but it gave us a unique opportunity to showcase that wellness is all about the human spirit. A witness to a miracle, I’m left with a grateful heart,” said Aja Totanes, Marketing Manager, Robinsons Supermarket on her Facebook status during the time of the event.
For her last spiel, coach Toni invited everybody to join next year’s 12th Fit & Fun Wellness Buddy Run.
