The best and brightest local swimmers from various swimming clubs in the country will be featured in the 5th Anniversary Meet of the Swim League Philippines (SLP) this weekend (June 24-25) at the newly opened Muntinlupa Aquatic Center in Muntinlupa City.
According to SLP president Fred Galang, 700 swimmers from 30 SLP-affiliated swimming clubs are confirmed to participate in the tournament with the theme ‘United We Swim’ sponsored by Allied Pharmaceutical’s Symdex-D, Phillius Realty, Behrouz Restaurant, Jamila Aesthetics and Basic Dots Printing.
“Our anniversary meet was well represented from our affiliated teams in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. Our swimmers based abroad, aetas and students from public schools are also involved. Our LGBTQ brothers, Indigenous people, Masters from the PNP and the Army also have separate special categories,” said Ancheta, representative of the National Capital Region (NCR) to the Philippine Swimming Inc.
PSI president Miko Vargas, PSI secretary general and Congress of Philippine Aquatics, Inc. , (COPA) founder Batangas 1st District Congressman Eric Buhain, Muntinlupa City Mayor Ruffy Biazon and former Senator Manny Pacquiao who was recently appointed as honorary chairman of the SLP are invited as guests to the program that will start at 7:00 am.
Ancheta asserted that the tournament is part of the intensive national selection done by the SLP to select swimmers who compete in invitational and school-based swimming competitions abroad.
“It has become our motivation for the faster development of young swimmers to be able to participate in tournaments abroad. The experience they have there is something they can really use once they join a higher level of competition here in the Philippines and abroad,” said Ancheta.
The so-called ‘Water Beast’, multi-medalist Jasmine Mojdeh, Vietnam-based siblings Heather, Hannah and Reuben White and national junior record holder Jamesray Ajido are among the products of SLP’s relentless grassroots sports program.
Special awards await the top swimmers in their respective age group events in the tournament sponsored by the Solid Swimming Coaches Association of the Philippines (SSCAP), The Central Northern Luzon CAR Swimming Coaches Association (CNLCSCA), The Swimming Federation, Philippine Life Saving, Green Earth Movement, TOPS, TVC Channel 8, Piko Pinoy TV, Sports Guild of the Philippines, Bombo Radyo, Swim Meet Results, Sports Lockdown, Neptune Actives, Decathlon, Splash and Dash, FINIS Philippines, Go Swim, Amanzi, Klean Athlete, Mad Wave Philippines, Yingfa Pilipinas, TYR Philippines, Langoy Pilipinas, and Divine Works.
