Schneider Electric strengthens data centers with Edge computing to support the next evolution of telcos

0 0

The telecommunications industry has rapidly evolved in the last ten years. Internet of Things (IoT) devices have made it easier to transmit and collect data by connecting wirelessly to a network. Connected devices have transformed the way people communicate through the internet. IoT devices have affected the way people interact with the world around them.

With technological advancements, IoT devices can efficiently store and process mountains of data. By 2035, the IT industry will consume 8.5% of the world’s electricity, as compared to 5% in 2021. Improved efficiency and cost optimization benefits have made IoT the preferred device for communication. Due to data traffic, data centers are expected to take up a significant share of global electricity demand. Sustainability concerns have prompted action as the investment in data centers to support the telco industry with continues to rise with the IoT.

In preparation to becoming one of the biggest data center hubs, many companies in the Philippines have been working towards improving their technological capabilities. The country has been making purposeful investment as the need for faster internet connectivity grows. According to Ookla, overall 4G and 5G performance improved in the country due to operator investments and regulatory reforms. Earlier in 2021, the emergence of a new player in the Philippines’ highly competitive telco market further proves the increasing need for innovative IT and telco edge solutions.

Schneider Electric has developed an edge solution to address the challenges of deploying distributed network edge data centers around the country. Schneider Electric’s Ecostruxure Pod Data Center was designed with functionality in mind to support necessary IT infrastructure while provide air containment for all rack types through a rack-ready system. With edge architecture, the Pod Data Center adapts to the requirements of each center and reduces capex cost by up to 15%.

Schneider Electric’s EcoStruxure IT presents a platform for monitoring and management to ensure optimal performance. This next-generation software delivers cloud-based management and analytics to prevent any downtime. By partnering the IT solution with the Asset Advisor, Schneider Electric assists users with making critical decisions or availing the Connected Services Hub as they occur due to its ability to evaluate live data from the user’s critically connected assets.

“Our data centers use edge computing solutions to transform the way data is generated, processed, analyzed and transported to local servers. The requirements of each data center vary depending on the location, sources of availability, and business and consumer proximity so both the IT infrastructure and software have been optimally designed,” said Abraham Lim, Secure Power Director at Schneider Electric Philippines.

Schneider Electric’s Smart UPS Li-ion protects equipment and critical data from costly interruptions by supplying reliable, network-grade power reliably and efficiently. Uninterrupted power supplies boost the productivity of communities while simultaneously reducing the expenses associated with deployment and use. Since the Smart UPS is available in a variety of forms, entry level models serve as the more economical choice for small and medium-sized enterprises.

“The different types of Smart UPS models are tailored to the business’s needs so that only the required amount of power would be used to supply the data center,” said Lim.

Schneider Electric has made it possible to build sustainable and resilient data centers around the country. Moreover, Schneider Electric has identified the telco edge as the next frontier for data center compute environments, securing the IT infrastructure for the distributed hyperscale data centers. By harnessing AI and machine learning algorithms, Schneider Electric has strengthened its domain expertise in IT to support the growing demand for faster internet connectivity. To minimize latency and increase computing capacity, Schneider Electric presents opportunities to collaborate with the Philippine telco industry build sustainable digital infrastructures.
