PHILIPPINE sports is in good hands.

Newly appointed Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Chairman Noli Eala said the sports agency under his watch will care for sports ‘like no other’.

“The PSC will have a new face and new energy. The PSC, under my watch, will care for sports like no other,” said Eala in his official statement released to media on Thursday.

The former sports broadcaster and PBA Commissioner officially started his new role as czar of the country’s leading government sports agency after Malacanang confirmed his appointment last August 31, replacing the empathic former Chief William ‘Butch’ Ramirez.

Eala meet PSC Commissioner Olivia ‘Bong’ Coo and several key officials including Executive Director Atty. Guillermo Iroy Jr., and Deputy ED Merlita Ibay for briefing. But, for the meantime, he still waiting the appointment of at least two more commissioners or the completion of Board to act on all pending matters including administrative and financial request for travel and equipment from several national sports associations.

“Sports has always been my passion. My involvement in sports for the last 33 years is a testimony to this. Never did it cross my mind that I would be given this honor and privilege to lead the PSC and our country’s sports agenda. I would like to thank the President for this opportunity to serve Philippine sports again.

“We have made great strides in the last few years in sports. My new administration will seek to ensure sustainability of the success of our programs for the long term. I will carry out the mandates of the PSC to develop and promote sports in the grassroots as a tool towards nation building and unity, and ensure full and enhanced support for our national athletes in their continued quest to bring honor and glory to our country.

“We will continue with programs that will further strengthen our sports initiatives. We will create pathways for all to get involved in sports while ensuring that elite athletes are provided with all they need to be successful. We will reach out to the private sector, similar to the golden years of the Gintong Alay program, to harness their support for all stakeholders of sports.

“Today, I reported for work and had an initial meeting with officers of the agency discussing matters from basic housekeeping to urgent pending matters needing immediate attention and action.  We target to have all these clarified and studied in preparation for the formal convening of the board.

“It was a productive first day at the office.  There are many things to be done, but I am hopeful and eager to start working,” said Eala.
