A believer of Project: ‘Gintong Alay’, Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Chairman Noli Eala announced on Thursday the plan to launch two major programs for elite athletes and grassroots development.

An offshoot of the government’s national sports program under the administration of the late President Ferdinand Marcos, Sr., Eala said Project: ‘Gintong Laban’ for the elite athletes and ‘Duyan ng Magiting’ intended to strengthen the athletes development in the grassroots level are now in their planning stages and will soon be presented as part of the PSC’s center piece project starting next year.

“After our strategic planning next week, we hope to roll these out, so we can brief our stakeholders and our partners,” said Eala, who introduced the programs to officials of national sports associations during the PSC-host consultative meeting on Thursday at the Philippine International Convention Center in Pasay City.

“This (Gintong Laban) is a high-performance program for elite athletes, and in this particular program, we are hoping to tweak Project: Gintong Alay, wherein we take care of the elite athletes, and prepare them for the highest level of competition by raising enough funds,” added Eala.

“While Gintong Alay is a Godfather program, considering the number of national sports associations we have now, we will “pool” the resources from these partners to equally distribute to our athletes,” Eala said.

Right after appointing PSC Chairman by President BongBong Marcos Jr., the namesake of Marcos Sr., Eala already stressed his plan in modernizing the Project: Gintong Alay, an elite level national sports program from 1979 until 1986. In 1990, program was shelved paving the way for the creation of PSC by virtue of the Republic Act 6847.

“There are many good points to the project Gintong Alay back in the 80s. It has produced so many good athletes, from Lydia de Vega to Elma Muros to Isidro del Prado, to all our boxers,” said Eala during one of his media interviews.

Eala describe “Duyan ng Magiting” (Cradle of the Brave) program as a range of approach in the grassroots level with a series of entry level events leading up to the current program Batang Pinoy and  Philippine National Games.

The PSC Chief stressed that support through infrastructure, equipment, medical, sports science and anti-doping education are also part of the two programs.
