PHILIPPINE Sports Commission (PSC) Chairman Noli Eala acknowledged the role of media and the importance of close coordination and unity between sports journalist and the government in promoting sports development in both the grassroots and elite level.

Eala asserted that the agency recognizes the role of the sports writing community as major partner in providing platform to convey to the public the actions and programs being done by government to uplift the morale of the athletes in their quest for sports excellence.

“The government and the PSC recognize the association of sportswriters as a partner in promoting programs for Filipino youth and the elite athletes who continue to bring honor and glory to our country,” said Eala after leading the oath-taking ceremony of the newly elected officials of the Tabloids Organization in Philippine Sports, Inc. (TOPS) on Thursday at the PSC Conference Room.

Eala said he is confident that there will be no obstacles in the productive relationship between PSC and TOPS. The former PBA Commissioner also thanked TOPS for supporting the media coverage of the agency’s programs including the recently concluded PSC Women’s Martial Arts which was handled by Commissioner Bong Coo.

This coming December 17-22, in collaboration with the provincial government of Ilocos Sur, the PSC will conduct the return of Batang Pinoy – the agency’s grassroots talent search – in Vigan City.

The PSC is also in full swing preparing for the training of Filipino athletes in big tournaments next year such as the SEA Games in Cambodia, the Asian Games in China, and the Asian Indoor Games.
