TEAM Eggs Benedict, a team composed of college volleyball players from provincial schools emerged as the overall winner of the first Volleyball eSports Online Charity MLBB tournament organized to support local frontliners.
The provincial-based squad defeated San Beda College 2-1 in the best of three finals held last July 4, 2021. San Beda took the first match, pulling off a close 29-30 win.
Eggs Benedict left nothing to chance, aware they needed to take game 2 to stay alive. They used a different kind of strategy to knot the series count at 1-1 and set up a winner-take-all game 3.
Both teams went all out for the all-important deciding game but Eggs Benedict’s aggressiveness proved too much for San Beda. They capitalized on the errors of the Lady Spikers, racing to a 24-14 lead and the win.
The winning team was made up of team captain Karen Goyena (Bicol University), Kamille R. Verches and Maricar B. Sarza (Divine World College of Legazpi) and also Mark Guray and Aldren Dela Coste of (University of Northeastern Philippines).
The San Beda Lady Spikers who put up a gallant stand was made up of Miles Gregorio, Lyn Matias, Patchie Cenzon, China Tannagan and Nicole Laguna.
Eggs Benedict had to overcome Tremendous Clan, 2-0 in their best of three series to advance to the final. San Beda, on the other hand, overpowered Sta. Lucia 2-0 in their series to set up the final.
The Amang Rodriguez Medical Center in Marikina, the San Juan Medical Center and Mandaluyong City Medical Center are the beneficiaries of the online charity tournament.
With the success of the tournament, Doubletap Gaming Entertainment and Sports Bytes Philippines plan to hold more MLBB events in the coming months. The first Volleyball eSports Online Charity MLBB tournament was backed by Smart Communications and Sta. Lucia Realty.
