The President has approved Duque’s recommendation to revert Metro Manila and other parts of Luzon back to MECQ

Department of Health (DOH) Secretary Francisco Duque III recommends reversion to Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ) for 15 days from August 3 to August 18, 2020 after reports of breach of COVID-19 confirmed cases in the country. The recommendation is to place Metro Manila, Bulacan, and Region IV-A (Laguna, Cavite, and Rizal) to MECQ.

President Rodrigo Duterte approves it.

The country hits a 103,185 COVID-19 confirmed cases surpassing the 100,000 mark as the month of August begins with a record-high 5,032 new positive cases.

The recommendation also includes requiring again the use of quarantine passes, intensified lockdown enforcement, and distributing additional face masks to the public.

The recommendation was announced as Duterte was presiding his weekly public address.

MECQ will take effect midnight August 4, says Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque.
