In tonight’s late-aired televised meeting, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte welcomes his cabinet members and talks to his kababayans about the latest updates on the government’s policies, as well as the recommendations submitted by the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) on the ongoing quarantine status and programs being implemented to mitigate the effects of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.
“Tomorrow or the day after, after I shall have talk to the businessmen, then we can decide whether or not ah, we can still modify the modified lockdown that we have imposed,” said the president who was wearing a black washable face mask during the first part of the late-night cabinet meeting before passing the floor to Department of Health Secretary Francisco Duque III.
The President also addresses several issues and concerns including the opening of classes in August, and the implementation of distance and online blended learning strategies as an alternative to face-to-face learning until such time that a COVID-19 vaccine becomes available.
Despite the government’s easing restrictions to pave way for economic viability, President Duterte reminds every Filipino to stay vigilant against the spread of COVID-19. He calls on everyone for continued cooperation in observing the minimum health standards through proper social distancing, frequent hand washing, proper cough etiquette, clean and safe surroundings, and respect for authorities.
Metro Manila remains under GCQ until June 30
Meanwhile, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque, as per IATF and DOH’s cases on the outbreak, Metro Manila will remain under GCQ status until June 30.
“Wala hong masyadong magbabago dito sa Metro Manila at sa iba pang parte ng Luzon na nasa GCQ. Bagama’t karamihan po ng mga probinsya po natin dito sa buong Pilipinas ay nasa modified GCQ na,” said Roque who confirmed that there is little or no change in quarantine status as of June 15, 2020.
“Ganumpaman din Mr. President, mayroon pa rin tayong community quarantine sa buong Pilipinas, hindi pa po tapos ang banta ng COVID-19 dahil wala pa pong bakuna. At pinapaalalahaan po natin ang ating mga kababayan na habang wala pa pong bakuna at wala pang gamot kinakailangan manatiling malusog, social distancing, wearing of mask, at maghugas po ng kamay. Salamat po,” added Roque before ending his report to the President.
