OCTA Research asks Government to impose 2-week lockdown

The OCTA Research Group asked the Philippine Government to impose two weeks of lockdown because of the threat of Delta Variant in the country, said in a press briefing of Laging Handa on Tuesday, July 27.

Last Monday, in a State of the Nation Address of President Duterte, he mentioned that the Philippines might implement a lockdown to prevent the spread of Delta Variant in the country.

“Kaya po kami sa OCTA naniniwala po kami na katulad ng sa Presidente ng Pilipinas, na hangga’t maaga, maging maingat tayo (We cannot discount this increase in cases anymore. That is why we at OCTA believe that like what the President said [in his State of the Nation Address], as early as now, we have to be careful), ” Professor Ranjit Rye said.

According to the Department of Health, about 90% infectious the Delta Variant than the Alpha Variant — as seen in 114 samples sequenced by the Philippine Genome Center.

 Meanwhile, the Bacoor Local Government Unit has monitored 30 possible individuals of COVID-19 Delta Variant cases, according to Mayor Lani Mercado.

As of now, the Philippines has recorded a total of 1.56M of individuals of COVID-19 cases, 1.47M recoveries, and 27,247 deaths.
