MARK “Magnifico” Magsayo made a successful debut under MP Promotions, hacking out a ten-round split decision win over Rigoberto Hermosillo in the main event of FS1 PBC Fight Night on Saturday (Sunday in Manila) at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.
The 28-year-old Hermosillo, a replacement for original opponent Jose Haro, had a good showing in several rounds. Two judges scored it for Magsayo because of his harder shots (100-90, 96-94) while the other judge had it 96-94 for Hermosillo.
It was the 21st win for Magsayo who has yet to taste defeat. It was his first fight since winning over Panya Uthok of Thailand. He won via unanimous decision to snag the WBC-ABC featherweight title.
Magsayo successfully made his debut for MP Promotions, also his first fight under legendary trainer Freddie Roach.
Roach said he planned to train Magsayo for his next bout against WBC No.4 ranked contender Gary Rusell.
“We’d love to fight [WBC champion] Gary Rusell Jr. but we need more work in gym,” said Roach.
Magsayo improved his undefeated record to 21 wins with 14 knockout while Hermosillo dropped to 11-3-1, 8KOs.
