In South Korea, howls of grief envelope Itaewon District with news of loved ones passing on the night of the Halloween celebration that crushed 151 people to their death begins to sink in.
Prayers are offered for the dead with a growing pile of tributes seen in the spots where the young lives died on the evening of October 29.
South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol announced the period of mourning and ordered authorities to rapidly identify the victims and figured out what caused the crush.
Itaewon is popular for nightlife and Halloween weekend is one of its busiest.
There were up to 100,000 people who were reported to have joined the celebration, and more than 150 never made it out packed in a small alley unabled to move and breathe.
90% of the victims have been identified and around 20 of them are foreign nationals.
Survivors claim it was lack of planning and not enough police force and emergency services that worsened the incident.
TikTok user Taeveniti shared that two of his friends were in critical conditions and one have passed away during the commotion. “There was no stampede,” said Taeveniti.
He said that it took 30 minutes before police arrived on the scene.
