Indian Women in Enterprise (I-WE), a non-profit organization centered on empowering women professionals, concludes the first run of Tech2Transform (T2T), a program that equips women leaders and entrepreneurs with the capacity to grow and develop their businesses. 27 Filipina entrepreneurs graduated from all over the Philippines, while its top 10 finalists and 4 business projects received awards and distinction at a graduation event held at Marriott Hotel Manila presided by the Honorable Indian Ambassador to the Philippines Mr. Shambu S Kumaran and DTI Undersecretary Ms. Blesila A. Lantayona, Regional Operations. The event also celebrates the 70th anniversary of the Philippine-India Treaty of Friendship which was signed to strengthen existing relations between the two nations.

T2T participants went through seven learning sessions that focused on digital marketing, writing effective business plans, financial forecasting, data tools for monitoring, and e-commerce for growth, and shared best practices for MSMEs in the Philippines. Throughout the program, participants learned how to utilize digital transformation to sustain and scale their businesses to support the economic revival of a post-pandemic market.

Shambu Kumaran, Indian Ambassador to the Philippines, said “I-We’s Tech2Transform program is a pioneering effort. The idea of Indian entrepreneur ecosystem learnings being used to drive Philippine MSME entrepreneurial activity is a highly scalable idea and transcends technology. As a jury member, I was happy with the quality of MSME contestants and the winners. I am looking forward to making this initiative scale up faster and wider with the Foundation’s commitment to building MSME ecosystems, globally”

All participants were required to submit a detailed business strategy for their capstone project which was judged by Mr. Eric Caeg, President of ICSB, and Mr. Samir Sathe, EVP of Wadhwani Foundation, India. The top four participants of the program were also awarded during the ceremony for their business plans: Ericka Evangelista of the Ericka Evangelista House of Fashion for Most Committed to Transform, Franz Badong-Repuyan, of RuyagPH for Best Business Strategy, Jennifer Subang of Agridom Solutions Corp. for Best in Digital Marketing, and Ellenita Red of ARTE Fashion Store for Best in E-Commerce Strategy. The winner Ms. Erika will now be eligible to join the “Wadhwani Lift-off” program and trained for 14 weeks to win an all-expense-paid trip to Silicon Valley and pitch her business plans to potential investors.  All the winners also received a cash prize, trophy, and certificate from Esquire Financing Inc.

Furthermore, participants Nisha Alicer, Franz Badong-Repuyan, and Jennifer Subang, who have shown expertise in agriculture and sustainable products, will be the first of the batch to undergo mentorship from industry leader Atlantic Gulf & Pacific (AG&P). As part of its ESG efforts, AG&P will focus on teaching best practices for building and developing sustainable businesses, along with investor relations, and digital marketing to sustain business development.

I-WE president, Priya Murugesan said, “We are proud to celebrate the culmination of our first run of Tech2Transform as well as the 70th anniversary of the Philippine-India Treaty of Friendship. Harnessing the potential and capabilities of Filipino and Indian women, we commit ourselves to cement the good relationship between our two countries and drive economic growth for all aspiring women. As we continue to grow our organization, we aim to reach and support more women leaders and entrepreneurs in their journeys to success through our humble initiatives.”

T2T Project Leads Dr. Sharon Vaswani and Indu Badlani added, “For many women, the T2T program is the first key step in their journey as independent entrepreneurs and we are proud to assist and guide them as they start a daunting yet exciting new endeavor.”

Applications for the second run of T2T will open in early August for 50 women MSME business leaders.

For the run of the first T2T program, I-WE partnered with the Embassy of India (Manila), Esquire Financing Inc, Wadhwani Foundation, Atlantic, Gulf, and Pacific Company (AG&P), LGo Connect, Prosperna, UnionBank GlobalLinker, Startup Village/Match, Philippine Center for Creative Imaging, NextPay, Women’s Business Council (Philippines), Women Strong Network, In Touch Community Services, and Workbank.
