YOUNG swimmers from far-flung provinces in the South gets their chance to shine on a big stage as the FINIS National Long Course Swim Competition series continue with the staging of the Mindanao leg this weekend (Nov.12-13) at the Joaquin F. Enriquez Memorial Sports Complex Swimming pool in Zamboanga City.
Chief organizer and FINIS Managing Director Vince Garcia said at least 200 tankers from different schools, clubs and organizations have signed up to participate in the swim apparel brand’s own version of grassroots sports development program.
“We believe that Mindanao has a lot to offer when it comes to talent. Parang may minahan ng talent dito, naghihintay lang na mabungkal ika nga. Some of the country’s best and legendary swimmers are from this part of achepelago,” said Garcia, an active triathlete and coach/manager of TODO Para triathletes team.
Aside from crafty medals which personally designed by Garcia, top swimmers in the Mindanao leg will be joining the Visayas leg qualifiers as well as medalists from the scheduled Luzon leg on November 26-27 at the New Clark City Aquatic Center in Capas, Tarlac in the National Finals set December 17-18 also in Clark.
“We’re excited to see the enthusiasm from this younger swimmers face.like in the Visayas leg, siguradong mainit din ang pagtanggap ng locals sa programa. Right now, we already reach 200 participants,” added Garcia.
