Face mask and face shield inside home to prevent coronavirus transmission among household members

0 0

Since the beginning of the coronavirus spread, one of the essential and required protocol to prevent the local transmission of the virus is to wear a face mask.

No question to it. A proper and standard face mask helps prevent a person from inhaling aerosol particles that might contain the virus. An N95 face mask also secures the person’s health, same with the disposable or surgical face mask that follow the health standard in fighting COVID-19.

But people are creative and they started wearing face shields, in a fashionably way even if it wasn’t required yet.

Until it became a necessity as the virus becomes stronger and a huge rise in number of new active cases are reported around the world.

In the Philippines, Presidential Spokesperson endorsed the wearing of face shield as part of rhe COVID-19 health protocol during one of the press briefing of the President in August as the country reached the 100,000 mark of the total cases as reported by the Department of Health (DOH). The demand on face shields suddenly jumped the day after and the price of a regular face shield increased from P25 to P35-P50.

Recently, the Department of the Ibterior anf Local Government (DILG) proposed the wearing of face shield even while at home. Interior Secretary Eduardo Año explained that the virus has spread and even those who are at home are vulnerable. He reuired household members to wear face shield to prevent transmission among each family members. He also pointed out that those who are living with an LGU should folow this protocol, plus wearing face mask, to protect them from getting the disease.

The question is will many families follow this suggestion of wearing face mask and face shield inside their residences? There is nothing wtong with wearing face mask and face shield, especially if you care for your loved ones, but it will be difficult to regulate this in the privacy of our homes.

A lot might think it’s absurd and they will not agree to this recommendation. But if you think logically, there’s some.sense to it.

Families at home are still vulnerable with members of the house going in and out for essentials and if there are packages received or food delivered from the outside. These could bring the virus inside our homes. Not everyone follows disinfecting religiously. That is why wearing of face mask and face shield could be an option.

But it’s not for everybody. Peedro would not mind wearing these but Juan might not agree.

It’s up for a person if he or she sees the needs but it should not be imposed or mandatory.
