Southeast Asian Games veteran and former national coach Julius Esposo expressed his gratitude to the Table Tennis Association for National Development (TATAND) for the support that helped him get back on track playing despite impairment and land a coaching job for the Penang junior team.
Esposo, a bronze medalist in the 2005 SEAG edition in Manila, continued to flourish in his skills and mentorship of young athletes through TATAND’s unprecedented grassroots development program.
“TATAND helps me improve not just my skills but also my knowledge in coaching and organizing tournaments at the grassroots level. I doffed my hut to TATAND, particularly to Boss Charlie (Lim) and Sir Philip (Uy),” said Esposo.
Esposo is currently the coach of the Penang Table Tennis Team youth team, which participated in the just-concluded World Youth Contender Championship in Puerto Princesa, Palawan. His young ward, Lim Xi Qiam, finished 16th in the Under-17 and Under-19 girls classes.
“She is only 15 years old, pero maganda na ang galaw. Hopefully, makuha siya sa national team ng Malaysia for next year’s SEA Games,” said Esposo.
Aside from his coaching stint abroad, Esposo is also busy organizing two upcoming big local tournaments – the 2nd Toto Paul Fishbroker Cup International Table Tennis Invitational on May 30-31 and the 2023 World School Games qualifying tournament on June 1-2. Both events happened at the Ayala Malls in Fairview, Quezon City.
