American Boxer Errol Spence Jr. canceled his fight with Filipino Boxer Manny Pacquiao because of a retinal tear injury. Yordenis Ugas of Cuba, who has held the WBA welterweight title, will replace Spence in the match on August 21 in Las Vegas.

“I was excited about the fight and the event. Unfortunately, the doctors found a tear in my left eye and said I needed to get surgery on it ASAP and that there was no way I could fight with my eye in that condition,” Spence said.

Spence had to return to his home in Texas for treatment and his eye surgery.

Meanwhile, he expressed his disappointment because he isn’t able to fight Pacquiao. Spence found out that he had an eye injury in a pre-fight medical examination.

However, Pacquiao posted on his Twitter account, wishing Spence for the fast recovery, and he agreed to face Ugas instead for the WBA welterweight super championship.

“I have agreed to fight Yordenis Ugas on August 21 for the WBA welterweight super championship. The proper way and the only way to win a world title is inside the ring,” Pacquiao said.
