Twelve months of collaboration and for the month of December, Dr. Martens ended this year with the much-anticipated release of the Japanese cult street brand Mastermind World on the night of December 12.
12 boots. 12 brands. 12 months of groundbreaking, one-of-a-kind collaborations that have stormed through one of the most eventful years we’ll see in our generation.
For Dr. Martens’ 60th anniversary, releases paid homage championing self-expression and redefining what it means to be tough.
“TO ME, THE SKULL SYMBOLIZES A FIGHT UNTIL DEATH TO FULFILL ONE’S DESTINY.” – MASAAKI HOMMA, MASTERMIND WORLD
Stating that the skull and crossbones are one the most poignant cultural symbols, Homma has rarely strayed far from this minimalist graphic throughout his history as a designer. The never-say-die attitude speaks for itself. In this collection, the hard-hitting graphic is emblazoned on an amped-up edition of our classic DM’s silhouette.
For those who are lucky, they copped this badass pair for only $230 and that’s a kickass steal, if you’ll ask us. And for those who were late for a couple of minutes, the boot is sold out, leaving no trace of future re-release, if there would be any.
The Mastermind World boot has the classic punk look of the Dr. Martens 1460 Remastered in black smooth leather. The boot shows off a punk-inspired jungle zip and skull and crossbones print that Homma stans can easily spot if you wear them on the streets.
Masaaki has many devoted fans including celebrities, athletes, musicians, and actors both in Japan and abroad, and it’s not surprising that the Dr. Martens x Mastermind World will be gone in 60 seconds.
In April 2019, Dr. martens released the Mastermind World x End collaboration, taking the classic rebellious Dr. Martens 101 ankle boot in Smooth black leather, and a special “Made in England” edition. Like the 1460 Remastered, and in keeping with Mastermind’s punk aesthetic there is a branded metal zip running down the inside upper of the boot, with the brand’s bold skull & bones logo on the outer wall.
For Dr. Martens boot collectors in the Philippines, the Mastermind World is a pair that’s worth copping.
