In preparation for the national government’s ICT agenda, the DICT (Department of Information and Communications Technology) announced the launch of the department’s strategies, which will include course initiatives in relation to digital connectivity, digital transformation, digital inclusivity, resiliency, and sustainability, as well as strategic partnerships that will contribute to the Philippines’ development agenda and its role in the global digital economy.
Emmy Lou V. Delfin, Director IV, ICT Industry Development Bureau (IDB), shared this with us as she highlighted the next phase to National ICT Agenda and to encourage everyone in the IT sector, corporate leaders, and stakeholders to collaborate with the development plan.
Speaking in front of the hundreds of attendees and delegates at the CXO Tech Summit 2023, Delfin praised VST ECS Philippines for championing the technology summit’s effort in pioneering innovation and cybersecurity talks that would contribute to the nation’s digital transformation.
“Thank you so much for your significant contribution to our country’s development, creating digital transformation, fostering innovation, and most of all for enhancing the quality of life for our fellow Filipinos,” she addressed everyone present in the Dusit Thani’s Grand Ballroom in Mactan, Cebu, where the annual CXO tech and innovation summit was held this year, October 18 to 21, 2023.
Digital connection and infrastructure, cybersecurity, capacity development, policy and planning, ICT industry growth, and countryside development are all part of the DICT’s initiatives and mandates for a digital transformation.
The National ICT Agenda will be launched soon, with a 2023 to 2028 timeframe. “What’s going to happen in the next five years? We have already consulted with different private sector and stakeholders in the ICT. We’re going to launch hopefully, within a month and we’d like to encourage for everyone to work with us because we know that collaboration partnership is crucial in making the Philippines, again, plays a significant role in the global digital economy. Bringing more opportunities, not only here in Metro Manila, but to the countryside for the Filipino people,” Delfin mentioned in her keynote speech.
The NIA intends to accelerate digital transformation in many sectors by focusing on making ICT services more accessible and affordable, improving digital literacy, and encouraging an innovation-driven economy. Extending broadband access, promoting e-government services, strengthening cybersecurity, and leveraging new technologies such as AI, IoT, and 5G are among the specific goals.
While digital transformation is an important step forward in the Philippines’ digital capabilities, whether it will make the country future-proof in the next five years is dependent on a number of factors, including successful implementation, adequate funding, and the ability to adapt to evolving technologies. Furthermore, the success of such a policy is contingent on the country’s capacity to address infrastructural issues, enhance digital skills and literacy, and foster an atmosphere receptive to innovation and entrepreneurship. The dedication of the government, public-private partnership, and the involvement of many stakeholders will all influence the efficacy of a digital transformation in accomplishing its aims.

“I hope with all the different programs, the government together with DICT, we are with you in making sure that the Philippines again will really have a big significant role in the digital economy,” said Delfin.
