WESTERN Visayas takes pride in Aklan-native Jennuel Booh De Leon, who will be donning the National color as a member of the 44-man solid Philippine Team set to compete in the prestigious 11th Asian Age Group Championships slated from February 26 to March 9 at the New Clark City Aquatics Center in Capas, Tarlac.
The 17-year-old standout of Northwestern College in Kalibo, Aklan, clearly a cut above the rest in his class, registered two Palarong Pambansa records and won gold medals in the Philippine National Games last year.
De Leon reset the Palaro old mark of 29.18 set by Neil Paderes of Calabarzon in 2019 with a shattering performance of 26.78 in the boys’ 50-m backstroke. He also broke the old mark of 25.39 in the boy’s 50-m freestyle set by Keanne Ting in 2019 with a 24.09-second feat. He claimed his third gold in 100-m freestyle (53.68).
De Leon won two gold medals at the Philippine National Games last December.
A consistent medalist in the Southeast Asian Age Group tilt, De Leon, whose parents are both swimming trainers, is eyeing to gain World Aquatics points as the Tarlac event is qualifying for the Paris Olympics this August.
Catch him, and the rest of the Philippine team live in action as they test grit and skills against the best young swimmers in the continent. Events tickets are now available online.
