EQUESTRIAN icon Mikee Cojuangco-Jaworski made history on Friday as first Filipino member of the Executive Board of the powerful International Olympic Committee (IOC).

The Busan Asian Games lone gold medalist for the Philippines and currently the IOC representative to the country, received 45 out of 93 votes during the Olympic body’s general assembly meeting and election via zoom.

The former actress and wife of former PBA player Robert ‘Dodot’ Jaworski, Jr., was also the first Asian woman executive board member after serving the last seven years as a regular member of the world’s highest sport’s governing body.

Mikee entered the IOC after replacing long-time IOC representative to the Philippines Frank Elizalde before his father and four-term Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) president Jose ‘Peping’ Cojuangco lost the RTC-ordered election two years ago.

Part of the Executive Board role as stated in the Olympic.org, “sees to the management of IOC issues and ensures respect for the Olympic Charter. It is the only body competent to propose Charter modifications to the Session, submit names of persons it recommends for election and appoint the IOC Director General.”

Mikee put the Philippines in world equestrian map after winning the country’s lone gold medal in the 2002 Asian Games in Busan, South Korea. She also won gold in the 2005 Southeast Asian Games in Manila and topped the 2011 International Equestrian Federation World Dressage Challenge before finally called it quits.
