A back-to-back strong earthquakes struck north eastern Japan on Wednesday night, triggering tsunami alert in Fukushima.

The Japan Meteorological Agency has issued a tsunami advisory for the northeastern prefectures of Fukushima and Miyagi.
Within two minutes apart, Japan felt a 6.4 and 7.3 magnitude earthquakes just before midnight. The shaking was felt in Tokyo.

Officials are calling on people in the affected areas to stay away from the coast.
In 2011, Japan was hit by a 9.0 magnitude earthquake that it shortened the Earth’s day by 1.8 microseconds and shifted its figure axis by 17 centimeters.
