THE stage is set for the P2.5-million 2022 Philippine Racing Commission Chairman’s Cup to be held this Sunday at the Metro Manila Turf Club  in Malvar, Batangas over the lung-busting distance of 2000 meters featuring the older horses.

Perennial rivals Edward Vincent Diokno’s Boss Emong (Dance City out of Chica Una bred By Tony Tan Jr.), which won this year’s Commissioners’ Cup, and Leonardo “Sandy” Javier Jr.’s Super Swerte (Art Moderne out of Faster Tapper bred by Javier himsef), which took home the Classic Cup headline Sunday’s main event.

Challenging them for the top prize of P1.5-million are Wilbert Tan’s 2020 Presidential Gold Cup Champion Pangalusian Island which has been returning to form as of late, Redentor Domingo’s Isla Puting Bato which has been always in the money in his recent stake race participations and Melaine Habla’s Big Lagoon.

It is expected that public support will favor both Super Swerte and Boss Emong (with a slight leaning on Super Swerte), as the two have been splitting their recent encounters with the latest a breathtaking duel from the opening of the gate in the 2022 Philracom Classic.

In the Chairman’s Cup Division 2 (2000-meters), seven gallopers vie for the P450,000 winner’s prize led by undefeated Robin Hood which is expected to be the top favorite in the race, stablemate Magtotobetski, Golden Sunrise, Hookbung Dagat, King Tiger, Moment of Truth and Shanghai Noon.

The Division 3 version of the annual event which gives P300,000 to the winner will feature nine gallopers equally able to snatch top honors. Blackburn, Bravo and stablemate Prime Time Magic, coupled runners Greatwall and Patong Patong, Gusto Much, La Liga Filipina, Life Gets Better and Victorious Colt will go head-to-head also over the 2000-meter distance.

“This is the culmination of this year’s Triple Cup for older horses.  Unfortunately, no one is in the hunt for the P1-million bonus for sweeping the three legs but that does not take away the challenge for bragging rights for both winners of the first two legs,” Philracom Chairman Reli de Leon stated.

Chairman de Leon adds, “Events like these give incentive to owners and breeders alike to improve their stock thus, in the process, bring the industry to greater heights.”
