0 0

At exactly 5:08 PM, Bocaue, Bulacan Mayor Eleanor ‘Joni’ Villanueva-Tugna passed away on May 28 due to sepsis secondary to bacterial pneumonia, according to a Facebook post of Jesus Is Lord Church Worldwide (JILCW) late Thursday evening.

The brother of the late Mayor Joni, Senator Joel Villanueva confirmed the sad news through his Twitter account.

“Today Bocaue lost its finest public servant. Mayor Joni was relentlessly serving Bocaueños during this lockdown despite her medical condition, which eventually caused her life,” said the senator.

Messages of condolences and sympathies pour in the senator’s Twitter, as well on the mayor’s and JIL’s Facebook page.

Villanueva is also the sister of former Bocaue mayor Jon-Jon Villanueva and Jovi Villanueva-Binalla. She is the daughter of Bro. Eddie Villanueva, president and founder of JILCW. Their mother died in March due to “arrhythmia secondary to septic shock.”

Joni is the wife of former congressman Sherwin Tugna.

Joni was proclaimed mayor in 2016 through a coin toss, a method used by the Commission on Elections to resolve a tie between two candidates.
