Now that Black Panther: Wakanda Forever has officially hit the theatres here’s a spoiler free review of the film.
Wakanda Forever is a respectable follow-up to the previous film. When Black Panther initially appeared on theatres, it amazed viewers with its characters, epic design, humor, and unique filmmaking methods. The movie is very respectful of both Chadwick Boseman and the people around him and T’Challa. Excellent acting performances may be seen throughout the movie. Leticia Wright’s portrayal of Shuri is particularly amazing.
But more than the familiar characters gives the sequel new energy. There are several new faces that join the group and appear to fit in. The movie’s antagonist lives up to being one of the more unique antagonists Marvel has portrayed on screen.
The plot is complex and emphasizes both how to deal with T’Challa’s death and the ongoing battle between the Wakandans and the Talokans. The location design, which features a brand-new cityscape, is beautiful.
Every single scene of the movie features incredibly detailed, and fantastic costumes. There are several instances in Wakanda Forever that demonstrate how adored T’Challa and Boseman were.
While many fans would question why the rest of the Avengers were not present at T’Challa’s funeral, Wakanda Forever feels separate from the MCU and has its own storyline that doesn’t require the Avengers or TGOTG. It’s fantastic that Marvel Studios treated this film as a tribute to Chadwick Boseman from start to finish. In this film, you can feel Chadwick’s presence and his Black Panther persona.
Wakanda Forever is a heartwarming film that is full of emotional rollercoaster rides without being overly dramatic. There has yet to be a film that has caused us emotional harm not because of the characters in the film, but because of the actors who played them. I know many people in the audience were fighting back tears, and that’s fine. Rihanna’s rendition of the theme song heightened the film’s emotional impact.
T’Challa’s fight as the Black Panther continues in the comic book, and Chadwick’s untimely death somehow paused his Black Panther’s storyline in the future. However, the MCU did the right thing by not erasing Chadwick’s legacy by recasting another actor to play Black Panther at this early stage. They incorporated Chadwick’s real-life death into Wakanda Forever by treating him with dignity as an actor and as the character T’Challa.
The movie really shines as a tribute to Chadwick Boseman.
