INDANG, Cavite – Action in athletics and volleyball gets underway on Monday at the start of preliminaries for the Reserved Officers Training Corps (ROTC) Games Regional Qualifying Luzon leg at the Cavite State University here.
Bicol Colleges overcame the University of Perpetual Help’s mighty comeback to post a 25-10, 32-30, 19-25, 24-14 win to start its campaign on a high note, while Tarlac State University easily defeated Granby Colleges of Science and Technology, 25-7, 25-7, 25-13, in the tournament among student cadets from over 100 schools, colleges and universities.
PanPacific University also entered the win column via a 25-19, 25-15, 25-11 triumph over the University of Perpetual Help, while Mindoro State University won via forfeiture against Tanauan Institute Inc. and Kurios Christian Colleges Foundation, Inc. won via default against Abra State Institute of Science and Technology.
Finals in the men’s and women’s 200-meter run as well as in the 4x100m relay (men’s and women’s) are set at 3 pm.
The five-day tournament is a brainchild of Senator Francis ‘Tol’ Tolentino in partnership with the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC), Department of Local Government (DILG), the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), and the Commission on Higher Education.
The National Capital Region leg of the Games is set for October 8 to 14 and the National Championships from October 22 to 27. Two previous legs were held in Iloilo and Zamboanga City for the Visayas and Mindanao legs.
