THE Philippine BEST (Behrouz Elite Swimming Team) bagged 19 more medals, including 10 golds to end its impressive campaign on a high note at the close of the 2022 Philippine National Age Group Championship over the weekend at the newly renovated Olympic-size Teofilo Yldefonso Swimming Pool inside the historic Rizal Memorial Sports Complex in Manila.

National junior record holder Jasmine Mojdeh and Vietnam-based Filipino-Briton Heather White highlighted the BEST tankers’ amazing run in the three-day meet which serves as tryouts for the National junior and training pool.

Mojdeh, 16, a Brent International School student, dominated the last event she participated in the girls 16-18 class 200-m Fly in a time of 2: 22.25. Dubbed ‘Water Beast’ in the local swimming community, the multi-titled junior internationalist previously won the 50-m Fly (29.62), 100-m Breast (1: 18.33), 400-m Individual Medley (5: 16.51), 50-m breast ( 35.67), 100-m fly (1: 04.17) and 200-m Individual Medley (2: 29.35).

The 15-year-old White, a student of ABC International School Vietnam, proved she was a force to reckon with, winning the 14-15 girls 50-m Back (32.47) and 100-m Free (1: 00.02) to extend her dominance to 200- m Free (2:14), 50-m Fly (28.96), 200-m IM (2: 30.33), 100-m Fly (1: 05.62) and 50-m Free (27.49) in the tournament participated by 551 swimmers from various swimming clubs and organizations sanctioned by Philippine Swimming Inc.

“The moral of the our swimmers is high. They really cheered on every match by their teammates. Their exposure to tournaments abroad was also a big help, especially to Jasmines as well as the guidance of their coach Virgie who wasted no time for conditioning and training,” said BEST team manager Joan Mojdeh, regarding Jasmine’s campaign in the prestigious Melun, France tournament recently where she took home a gold and a silver medal.

Peter Dean of BEST Lucena won his third gold in the 14-15 boys by winning the 50-m Back (20.95). He first claimed the 200-m Back (2:21), 100-m Back (1:06) and a silver medal in the 200-IM (2:23), and bronze in the 400-m IM (5: 15.19).

Yohan Cabana also contributed to the 200-m Back (2:16) of the boys 16-18 class. He first won gold in the 100-m back (1: 02.67) and 200-m IM (2: 19.29) on Friday, while Marcus De Kam clinched the win in the 200-m Free in a time of 1: 59.51 and silver in 50-m Fly (26.40) in the boys 16-18 class.

Also took the podium are Arriana Carandang in the 11-13 girls 50 Back (33.98), Ruben White in 16-18 Boys 100 Freestyle ( 52.72); Ashby Canlas in 14-15 Boys 200 Breaststroke (2:35.44), Kristian Yugo Cabana 11-13 boys 200 Butterfly (2:34.75), Coby Rivilla 14-15 Boys 200 Butterfly (2:19.96), and Ivan Radovan 16-18 Boys 200 Butterfly 2:10.94

Other podium finishers (silver) are Julian De Kam in the  800 Freestyle boys 14-15 (9:37.18); Alejandro Carandang 800 Freestyle boys 16-18 (9:22.26); John Neil Paderes  in 19 over 50 Back (27.60); Marcus Johannes De Kam in the 16-18 Boys (54.12); Amina Mondonedo in 14-15 girls 100 Freestyle (1:00.85); Hugh Antonio Parto in 16-18 Boys 200 Fly (2:11.96) and Jules Mirandilla in 19 over boys 200-m Fly (2:14.52).

Geoffrey Liberato and Julian Ysabell Basa clinched the bronze in the 19 over boys 200-m Breaststroke (2:30.91) and girls 14-15 girls 200- Fly (2:41.78), respectively. Overall, the BEST grabbed 30 golds, 27 silver, and nine bronze medals.
