That’s the reason how thankful Ilocos Sur Governor Jeremias “Jerry” Singson to the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) headed by Chairman Noli Eala in awarding the return of the government’s flagship grassroots development program in the province which deeply affected by the pandemic and natural calamity the past months.
The hybrid Batang Pinoy is set December 17 to 22 with at least 5,000 athletes, coaches, officials and chaperons from nine sports are expected to participate in the five-day event and eventually turns into local tourists.
“This really boosts our local economy. Nagpapasalamat po ang lalawigan sa PSC, kay Chairman Noli (Eala) for accepting and giving us the permission to host the Batang Pinoy in our humble province. Malaking bagay po ito sa amin because through sports, makikila na naman po ang Ilocos Sur and hopefully mabubuhay uli ang aming economy through sports,” said Singson during media conference on Thursday at the PSC Conference Room inside the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex (RMSC).
“It’s an honor and with great pride to host the Batang Pinoy and the Province of Ilocos Sur is very excited when I announce that finally we will host the event,” added Singson.
“Pinaghandaan po namin ito, magkita-kita po tayo kahit hanggang Bagong Taon doon na po tayo magstay,” added Singson in jest.
As part of safety protocols, only nine out of 17 sports are decided to play face-to-face. Those sports to be played in nine separate venues were archery, athletics, badminton, chess, cycling, table tennis, swimming, weightlifting and obstacle course race (demo sports).

In behalf of the PSC, I am very proud and grateful to the Province of Ilocos Sur as we look forward to the start of the competition next month,” said Eala.
