ASICS renewed deals with PH Team

Team Philippines off to Tokyo Olympics will be outfitted by sports apparel brand Asics.

Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) president Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino and SONAK Group of Companies Chief Technology Officer Kabir Buxani officially renewed the partnership in a virtual media conference on Wednesday.

“May kasamang swerte ang Asics sa Team Philippines,” quipped Tolentino as Filipino athletes also wore the brand during the successful overall championship campaign in 2019 Southeast Asian Games in Manila.

“Naniniwala tayo na masuwerte pag nagsuot ng polha dots. Maybe, again, andyan pa ‘yung bwenas ng partnership ng Asics at POC. Naniniwala kami na may halong (bwenas). Maganda ‘yung partnership… Sana ‘wag magsawa ang Asics na mag-supply for the needs of the Filipino athletes,” he added.

Buxani said Asics will supply the Filipino athletes with their full training and competition uniform along with luggage and accessories.

“A lot of them are tailor-made based on the sport, to help them achieve the best,” said Buxani.

A total of 19 Filipino athletes have qualified in the Tokyo Olympics namely: 2016 silver medalist weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz and youngster  Elreen Ando; sprinter Kristina Knott; pole vaulter EJ Obiena; boxers Carlo Paalam, Eumir Marcial, Irish Magno, and Nesthy Petecio; gymnast Carlos Yulo; golfers Juvic Pagunsan, Yuka Saso, and Bianca Pagdanganan; judoka Kiyomi Watanabe; rower Cris Nievarez; shooter Jayson Valdez; skateboarder Margielyn Didal; swimmers Luke Gebbie and Remedy Rule; and taekwondo jin Kurt Barbosa.
