In commemoration of its 50th Anniversary of being one of the leading Milk brands in the Philippines, Alaska Milk Corporation (AMC) held a “Balik Tanaw” (“Looking back”) program together with Gawad Kalinga Community at the GK Alaska Village in San Pedro Laguna. 148 participants attended this unforgettable event with AMC.
“In our 50th anniversary, we felt it was important to look back at how we have helped our community in the past so that we can remain inspired and motivated to continue building sustainable and healthy communities in the future,” shared AMC Managing Director Mr. Tarang Gupta.
AMC’s strong partnership with Gawad Kalinga has been persistent, with their biggest contribution being their 2005 housing program in which AMC donated and helped build 100 22-square meter houses at a 1.3-hectare housing area in Bayan-Bayanan, Barangay San Vicente, San Pedro City, Laguna.
At the 50th anniversary Balik Tanaw program, an Alaskabuhayan Livelihood session was held with members of AMC’s Research & Development team demonstrating a recipe for preparing fruit salad using Alaska’s Condensada and Evaporada products so that members of the community can learn to make, and possibly sell their own versions. The AMC Management Team then led a milk toast and distributed Alaskabuhayan start-up kits to encourage the participants to start their own backyard businesses that could thrive on Alaska Milk products.
GK Chairman Mr. Jose Luis Oquinena and GK Island Head Mr. Jose Emilio Oquinena also gave encouraging speeches on how working with companies like AMC has benefited local areas. They were joined by San Vicente Barangay Chairwoman Ms. Diwa Tee Tayao, San Pedro City Cooperative and Livelihood officers Ms. Ruby Adajar, former AMC Safety Officer Mike Umali, AMC Sales Director Mr. Francisco Idian, and AMC Corporate Affairs Director Atty. Angela Esquivel.
