ADB, Sri Lanka Energy Sector learn RE Best Practices from CREC

MANILA – Representatives from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and Energy sector from Sri Lanka recently tapped Citicore Renewable Energy Corporation to learn more about Renewable Energy best practices in the Philippines.

In the knowledge-sharing initiative, the international delegation had the chance to tour around and see the state-of-the art facilities of GreenCore Power Solutions 3, Inc.  at the Arayat-Mexico Solar Farm in Pampanga.

“Currently, the interest and demand for clean and sustainable renewable energy are getting higher. The information and knowledge shared and exchanged here will be used as reference for future renewable energy projects,”Prof. Anura Wijayapala, head of the Department of Electrical Engineering of the University of Moratuwa and former Chairman of Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB), said.

Wijayapala added, like the Philippines, there’s a big push for renewable energy developments in Sri Lanka to ultimately lessen the country’s dependence to coal.

Affirming CREC’s commitment to support the national government’s advocacy for sustainable renewable energy, CREC CEO and President Oliver tan said the company is opening its doors for opportunities for similar collaborative knowledge sharing exercise on renewable energy with other private and government organizations.

“Renewable energy is now becoming the preferred source of energy. Through knowledge sharing exercises like this, CREC will continue to highlight its renewable energy projects in the Philippines and help the world, one country at a time,” Tan said.

“We, at CREC, are dedicated to bringing clean and sustainable energy solutions to communities across the country. Together, we can build a brighter and more sustainable future for all,” Tan added.

Tan, along with other CREC officials, led the Arayat-Mexico solar plant tour together with the guests from ADB and Sri Lanka.

The event was the final stop of the four-day collaborative event organized by the ADB from 13 – 16 December.Other attendees include senior energy specialists from ADB, officials from the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Power, Ceylon Electricity Board, and Lanka Electricity Co. (Pvt) Ltd., and representatives from University of Jaffna, University of Moratuwa, University of Peradeniya, and University of Ruhuna.

The Arayat-Mexico Solar Plant Phase 1, with 72MWdc was constructed in 10 months and completed its energization last March 2022. The Phase 2 expansion with 43MWdc is underway, and target energization is early 2023, making Arayat-Mexico Solar plant the largest solar facility in North Luzon with a combine total capacity of 115MWdc.

CREC, a pure renewable energy developer and operator of solar, run-of-river hydro, and off-shore wind energy platforms, has over 8GW of project pipeline in varying stages of development. #
