Drive-Thru Testing Center in Quirino Grandstand soft launches today

0 0

As early as 7 AM today, July 18, vehicles are lining up at the Qurino Grandstand in Manila to avail the free COVID-19 DRIVE-THRU TESTING CENTER mass testing.

Initially, the drive-thru testing center opened in front of the Kartliya ng Kalayaan along Lawton in front of the Manila City Hall.

Manila City Mayor Francisco ‘Isko Moreno’ was overwhelmed and happy about the result that many Manileños are availing the COVID-19 tests.

Mayor Isko said this during his briefing on Thursday, after vehicles with passengers wanting to be tested swarmed their drive-thru tests.

As the drive-thru testing was offered to residents and non-residents of Manila, free of charge, this led to heavy traffic in the area. Still, Moreno said that this is a “good problem” as testing possible COVID-19 patients is more important than traffic woes.

“Nagtraffic po talaga, pero ako iba po ang perspective ko. That is a sign of a good problem, why? Totoo pala na ang tao, gusto niyang magpatest but the problem is wala siyang access,” he explained.

“Second problem is economic, walang pera eh, hindi kumita eh. Oh ngayon nagkaroon ng libre, dumagsa,” he added.

This initiative which started on Wednesday, has already drawn over 700 recipients. It is also the second of its kind, after Taguig launched its own drive-thru testing facility last April.

According to Department of Health data, the country has done 984,313 individual tests from 63 licensed RT-PCR laboratories.

As a result, Moreno said that they are looking to open more drive-thru facilities — including one in the Quirino Grandstand that opens today to alleviate heavy traffic and test more individuals.

Earlier, he said that 31 of the first 235 recipients of the drive-thru tests were found to have contracted COVID-19 — which Moreno says reflects the city government’s reminder to take health protocols seriously, as some positive patients may appear healthy and asymptomatic.

Domagoso announced that the new drive-thru testing facility at the Quirino Grandstand will be open daily from 11:00 AM. to 5:00 PM.

All tests are free as they are shouldered by the city government. This is open to Manileños and non-Manileños.

Mayor Isko also revealed that some people are contributing more donations for this project. A businessman from Manila donated P6M to this campaign, according to Moreno during his live interview at Dos Por Dos program hosted by Anthony ‘Ka Tunying’ Taberna and Gerry Baja.

Starting July 20, the COVID-19 Drive Thru Testing Center at the Quirino Grandstand will operate from Monday to Friday.

Six lanes will be opened for four-wheel vehicles, tricycles, pedicabs, motorcycles and bikes.
